The Centre for Experiential Learning and Careers (CELC) is Redeemer’s resource for all things career and Experiential Learning related. It will host its annual Career + Calling Networking Expo this Wednesday, October 30.
“Students can come and discuss opportunities such as a job, a co-op, an internship, a volunteer opportunity, or summer job. That gives our students exposure to employers and vice versa, so that they can be mutually beneficial,” says Sandy Ma, CELC’s Internship Coordinator.
Though it is often perceived as a technical term, “Networking is really just building relationships,” says Mary Ann Benjamins, CELC’s Administrative Assistant. These relationships are extremely useful down the road for securing work in any discipline.
“Every connection that you make, [that person often knows] someone else. Maybe this company that you have a connection with – your mom’s brother’s uncle works there – maybe they’re not hiring but they’re looking for someone else who’s hiring. So that’s often how people find their work, through those connections,” says Benjamins.
This event will feature the stories of ten students who have recently completed Experiential Learning or Work Integrated Learning. “We’re going to have HUGE posters of their story, and they will be on display at C+C for all to see,” says Ma with a smile. These stories include co-ops, internships, semesters abroad, service learning, and practicum.
The Expo will be held from 3-6 PM in the Commons at Redeemer. The C+C event is annual, so for those who can’t make it, consider making next year a priority, or explore your career at one of CELC’s next on -campus events:
