Locking My Heart Into Place

Will I “Just know”?

I didn’t try to make this happen

But holding you gently feels so familiar

A puzzle I didn’t know I was solving

locking piece by piece into place

until something

                              clicks

And suddenly

I’m swept up in a swirl of affection

turning back to find a picture

where I thought a pile lay

I never knew this sacred play

Until I saw your unfeigned eyes

Assure me of a life found in its frame

Then I knew

Then I saw

How blessed I am to unravel this myst’ry

Wiping away the dust to find your soul

How am I to recover?

I wander through a maze

Without this love to guide—

It shows me every corner and then

Leads me out the other side

Will we ever finish this puzzle?

Once we find the piece that’s hiding

In the corner by the shelf;

Then we’ll sigh and admire the picture

That’s blossomed into our very selves.
